Crain's February 20th, 2026 : A year from opening, Detroit's new convention hotel is already booking into 2029

Groups are already booking blocks of rooms at the under-construction convention center-style hotel on the Detroit riverfront.
During a tour of the 25-story JW Marriott Detroit Water Square on the former Joe Louis Arena site, Scott Stinebaugh, director of sales and marketing for the hotel, said some blocks have been booked not only for next year after the hotel officially opens, but also into 2028 and 2029.
